Roma 3 Juventus 1: Bianconeri forced to wait for Serie A title

Juventus will have to wait another week to claim an historic sixth successive Serie A title after Roma ran out 3-1 winners at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday.

Having failed to clinch the Scudetto by being held to a 1-1 draw against city rivals Torino last weekend, Juve were denied the point they needed for glory by second-half goals from Stephan El Shaarawy and Radja Nainggolan.

The former AC Milan forward only started after top scorer Edin Dzeko sustained a calf injury, but he made his selection count in the 56th minute when he found the bottom corner with a shot that deflected wickedly off Leonardo Bonucci.

Nainggolan made sure of the win with a thunderous effort nine minutes later, leaving Juve to turn their attention to Wednesday’s Coppa Italia final agains…

European Super League not discussed at Dorchester Hotel meeting

Discussions between representatives of American billionaire Stephen Ross and leading Premier League clubs did not include talks over the possible formation of a breakaway European Super League, Omnisport understands.

The Sun reported that executives from Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United were hosted by Ross company Relevent Sports, which operates the pre-season International Champions Cup (ICC) event, at London s Dorchester Hotel on Tuesday.

The newspaper claimed talks centred around establishing a European Super League, but it is understood that the main topic on the agenda was in fact the future schedule for the ICC.

With the exception of Arsenal, all other Premier League clubs mentioned have featured in ICC tournaments since i…

Lewandowski: Barcelona forgot how to defend in Inter draw

Robert Lewandowski admits Barcelona forgot how to defend in their 3-3 Champions League draw with Inter on Wednesday as they were so focused on scoring.

Barcelona realistically required victory in their Group C encounter with Inter at Camp Nou to remain in with a shot of avoiding an early elimination for the second season running.

However, Nicola Barella and Lautaro Martinez struck after Ousmane Dembele had given Barca a half-time lead, before Lewandowski levelled up with a deflected shot.

Xavi s men went all out for a winner and were caught out by Robin Gosens late on, though Lewandowski s second goal did at least keep them in the competition for now.

Inter are three points better off than Barcelona and can eliminate the Catalan giants from the competitio…

Park stars as United claim late win over Wolves

Park Ji-Sung scored a stoppage-time winner as Manchester United marked Sir Alex Ferguson s 24th anniversary as manager with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Wolves on Saturday.

The day was tinged with disappointment for Ferguson, who saw his decision to start injury-plagued Owen Hargreaves back-fire as the England international lasted less than five minutes on his first start since September 2008.

But, aside from that frustration, Ferguson clearly had the football gods on his side as, not for the first time in the last 24 years, his team performed heroics deep into injury time at Old Trafford.

With time ticking down, Park gathered Darren Fletcher s cross-field pass, cut into the area, leaving Stephen Ward in his wake, before scoring with a hard, low shot into the bot…

Wilkins takes legal advice over ‘unfair dismissal’

(GSM) Former Chelsea assistant manager Ray Wilkins is unhappy about the way he was treated by the club following his dismissal on Nov. 11.

Wilkins is frustrated after he was told he was not going to get a new contract and has turned to the League Manager s Association for legal advice.

I am very disappointed that the board decided that I had no further contribution to make at Chelsea Football Club which has played such a huge part in my life, Wilkins said in a statement issued by the LMA.

Since rejoining the club, I am extremely proud to have assisted in Chelsea s recent successes. I enjoyed a fantastic relationship with the staff, players and the supporters and I now wish them all the very best for the future.

Blanc: My job is always in danger

Laurent Blanc insists his position as Paris Saint-Germain head coach is always in danger and the pressure has not been exacerbated by the Champions League defeat against Manchester City.

PSG have continued to dominate domestically since Blanc replaced Carlo Ancelotti ahead of the 2013-14 season, and they retained the Ligue 1 title with a 9-0 battering of Troyes last month.

However, success in Europe has proved elusive and a 1-0 loss at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday consigned PSG to a quarter-final exit for the fourth consecutive season.

Another failure in the Champions League has led to questions over Blanc s future at Parc des Princes, but the former France international says that is nothing new.

Since I signed for PSG, I am in danger, he said ahead of …

Atletico Madrid v Celta Vigo: Gabi unconcerned about lack of goals

Gabi is confident Atletico Madrid can overcome their goalscoring troubles as they prepare to take on Celta Vigo at the Vicente Calderon on Wednesday in the second leg of their Copa del Rey quarter-final tie.

Diego Simeone s men have been in superb form defensively, but have occasionally struggled going forward, winning a number of games by the smallest margin possible.

They failed to score entirely in their two most recent games, with Celta holding them to a scoreless draw in the first leg, before 10-man Sevilla nicked a point in Sunday s La Liga encounter.

Nevertheless, captain Gabi sees no reason for panic just yet and remains optimistic about their chances of winning silverware.

Our lack of goals has not been a problem so far, Gabi told reporters.

Best Odds:

Bookmaker:

West Ham United and Newcastle United will face each other in the opening weekend of the new Premier League season. The match between the Hammers and the Magpies is scheduled to kick off at the London Stadium in London at 8pm on Saturday evening.

West Ham United

West Ham had a disappointing campaign in 2019-20, as the London club just managed to stave off the dreaded drop to the Championship. David Moyes’s side finished only five points above the bottom three, and it is clear that it is simply not good enough. The London club were in the relegation zone for a lot of the season, and the team will be determined to do much better during the 2020-21 campaign.

The Hammers have not been ve…

Kick It Out condemns alleged racist abuse of Sterling

Kick It Out chair Lord Herman Ouseley has called on football authorities to stamp out racism after Manchester City star Raheem Sterling was allegedly targeted by abuse during a Premier League game at Chelsea.

Chelsea and the Metropolitan Police have launched investigations in order to establish whether Sterling was racially abused in the incident, which saw the forward berated at close quarters as he retrieved the ball, with the club vowing to take the strongest possible action where necessary .

The England international addressed the incident in a social media post where he suggested the way the media covers white and black players in different ways helps to fuel racism .
